Among the most noteworthy films of the year is the grandiose French adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo with Pierre Niney, which reimagines the classic tale of betrayal, injustice, and revenge with a modern cinematic treatment. For music lovers, A Complete Unknown follows the story of legendary folk-rock singer Bob Dylan, played by Timothée Chalamet. James Mangold’s film follows Dylan’s rise on the New York music scene of the 1960s and earned eight Oscar nominations.
The program also delivers suspense and psychological drama. After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino, stars Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri in the story of a university professor whose life is upended by a serious accusation and a secret from her own past. Even darker tones appear in Blink Twice, The Killer’s Game, Boneyard with Mel Gibson, Amber Alert, where a routine car ride turns into a dangerous attempt to save a kidnapped child, and the unconventional Nightbitch with Amy Adams.
Sci-fi and horror fans can look forward to the return of the extremely popular Alien franchise with Alien: Romulus. Director Fede Álvarez takes the franchise back to its claustrophobic sci-fi horror roots as a group of young space colonists encounter a deadly threat on an abandoned space station. The sci-fi lineup is rounded out by the adventure film Crater, which follows a group of young heroes growing up on a moon colony.
A sizable portion of the program is dedicated to action and adventure films. In the Lost Lands, featuring Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista, combines a post-apocalyptic world with fantasy and action, based on George R. R. Martin’s short story of the same name. Red Sonja will bring a new take on the legendary warrior, while Wildcat, starring Kate Beckinsale, offers a modern action thriller.
Films like 13 Days, 13 Nights and November will remind viewers of real stories and events. The former explores the dramatic evacuation of the French embassy during the fall of Kabul in 2021, while the latter follows the five-day counterterrorism investigation following the Paris attacks of November 13, 2015.
With this program, JOJ PLUS will further strengthen its position as the go-to film destination in 2027, offering everything from grand adventures and famous film worlds to breathtaking action and thrillers, standout performances, and real-life stories.
